Thoughts about assessing the process rather than the final product to enhance risktaking

I teach AP Art and find that sometimes students are so focused on their scores that they are less likely to take risks.

I am thinking of assessing students based on their process and have thought about ways to go about doing that. Does anyone currently do this or have any thoughts about this approach?

Rebecca - At ISB I base my grading rubrics on "artistic behavior" as defined by Harvard's Project Zero.  If you visit my web site http://www.mountains.brianreverman.com you can find some examples.  I'd be happy to explain anything you have questions about.  Will you be at the ARARTE conference in October?

Hope this helps,

Brian
