That is an interesting lesson you posted, Jaci and Kendra, and I've seen lessons like it where students use this same method to make a mural in their schools. I did something similar with my upper elementary at the beginning of this year; they used graphing to do a self-portrait. I took photos of them ahead of time and adjusted them to be in black and white and high contrast. . We also helped them out (and saved time) by graphing the paper out for them. It took them a long time, but I think it was worth it because many students realized they could draw a pretty good likeness of themselves...Also, for the background, i used the opportunity to talk about complementary colors and how they make a neutral color (like, for instance, the pencil gray they used for their drawing).
