Comment by Aimee Zvinakis on August 27, 2012 at 10:10am The unit was to create a Wayne Thiebaud inspired painting using his influence of exaggerated colors and strong composition. We also incorporated his use of texture (impasto) in painting so many students first added in a layer of modeling paste before painting with acrylics on top. Students found dessert photos online on food blogs and used those as their photo reference. They all a week to plan out their final composition, color scheme and experiment with the textures of the modeling paste. It would have been great to have students take their own photos of desserts but we simply didn't have enough time for that. It was a project that students of all levels were successful with and they all took their paintings home with them afterwards to hang up in their kitchens. All around, it was a great project. Here is the pinterest board I made to collect lovely food pics, Wayne Thiebaud artwork images, along with other artists who use food as their work's subject matter: http://pinterest.com/aimeezart/wayne-thiebaud-inspiration/
