Comment by Tom Wood on January 12, 2012 at 5:45pm Hi Morgan
It was in two parts. The first part is to create an image based upon a word, this is the background. The paper is divided into rough rectangles, the number being the number of letters in the word. Each letter has to fill each rectangle and the letters can be any orientation so you end up with something resembling a word puzzle. We used oil pastels to colour in.
A word or words are decided by the group and each student is given a letter. The letter is made from thin card and the width and depth is that of a ruler. The letter has to be designed with flaps to fold inwards etc. and once drawn out it is coloured in, then cut out , folded and stapled together. It's a good exercise in getting them to collaborate (size of letters, colours etc) and getting the students to work out some basic construction methods.
This will be part of a very large school/community digital mural I'm working on presently.
Good luck with it.
best wishes
Tom

Comment by Tom Wood on December 10, 2011 at 11:33pm I'm presently working with students on word puzzles in preparation for a 60 sq mtrs digital mural we will be doing in the New Year. The backgrounds are also word puzzles, so we're combining both 2D and 3D to create images we can work on digitally.
