Asia Region Art Educators

Art educators living, working or interested in Asia

This term I have started Art around the World Art club, creating fantastic art and craft pieces from different cultures. We began our journey in China, tying in with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

First project was to create a Chinese lantern. Hoping to move away from the stereotypical paper lantern, I was inspired by this paper marche lantern, created by tissue paper.

Since our school is lacking in tissue paper, we used crepe paper instead achieving the same result.

More projects to follow. Next session, paintings inspired by paper cuttings for the Year of the Rabbit!

Happy Chinese New Year!

This looks great! It's important to have art connected to cultural themes for children to learn.

very inspiring. We just finished a project on paper cutting in my art one class. One of the questions we posed is "how are we as artists inspired by past traditions?" Here are some of last year's results and I will be putting up this year's soon. https://isbartoneclass.wikispaces.com/Papercuts
