Hidden Meanings in Chinese Art on Asian Art Museum for Teachers

Hi all,

The Asian Art Museum has just created a new Facebook page for teachers. Of note is a link to a fabulous talk (in video form) given to Chinese American International School teachers on how the "hidden meanings in Chinese art" can be used to teach Chinese language skills and explore symbols, metaphors, and visual puns. Check it out: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asian-Art-Museum-for-Teachers/1345698...."Like" the page to stay up-to-date on the museum's latest student and teacher resources and programs.

This web site and Face book page is great. The museum is fabulous too - I enjoyed it so much when I was in San Francisco last year. Another one that teachers may find helpful for contemporary Chinese art is the web site of the White Rabbit Gallery here in Sydney Australia, which has a fabulous (and growing) collection of contemporary art from China and Taiwan, and is a great resource for teachers here: http://www.whiterabbitcollection.org/

Thanks, Kendra! We're so happy to hear that you're using the "Hidden Meanings" book. We're in the process of creating new curriculum related to celebrations and festivals in Asia wherein we're incorporating some elements from "Hidden Meanings" into the lessons/activities. We hope to have it up on our website this winter, so please stay tuned.

Thanks again,

Lorraine

Great to know about. We have the book here Hidden Meaning in Chinese Art by Terese Tse Bartholomew published by your museum and find it an excellent resource.
