Panorama Planet Laptop Project with Year 5

Did a class swap today with a year 5 class who is participating in laptop for schools pilot scheme. The class is lucky enough to have a laptop per child where learning and ICT webtools co-exists.

As part of their IPC unit, the class were learning about planets and the solar system. They already discussed and designed their very own planets. Having come across Dirk Paessler's panorama planets from PhotoJoJo, I thought this would be the prefect project to do with them!

We used images searched on google and used GIMP to create our panorama planets.

My prezi How to: that I showed the kids: http://prezi.com/f1ftdhveh8mi/creating-planets/

The children utterly enjoyed it, but hey it was hard work aswell with so many IT related complications!

I just did it with an individual student who composed it with verticals of photomerges.

Love this stuff. I saw this earlier in the year and we played around with it also but didn't actually get the product on mass like you. We did it in photoshop and the students composed many vertical panaramas together into a fragmented, radiating circle that had nothing in the centre.

Thanks Salome. I have added a prezi tutuorial that I did with the kids. GIMP is free and can be downloaded from internet! It doesn't take long when you try it out yourself, and the kids really enjoyed doing it aswell, espcially after they saw the professional examples. I have also added Dirk Paessler's flickr link on the blog, he does amazing planets and I had also emailed him to leave some comments about the kids work and he did! Have a go and have fun!
