Songdo Mural Project, South Korea, April 2013
To commemorate the city of Songdo earning the position to have the UN's new office for the Green Climate Fund based out of the Upper School art students will be working with a well-known mural artist from the United States to create a mural for the city of Songdo (Incheon). Dave Loewenstein, along with his assistant, will be coming to Korea April 21-30th to paint a mural in Central Park that is incorporate historical imagery like the crane. It will also incorporate in a abstract way the Chadwick International's Core Values which are honesty, fairness, responsibility, respect, and compassion.
In 2005 a group of my high school art students from Topeka High worked with Dave Loewenstein to recreate one of Aaron Dougla's murals. Douglas was a part of the Harlem Renaissance movement and originally from Topeka, Kansas. The mural they recreated was Douglas's painting called Aspects of Negro Life: From Slavery Through Reconstruction.
Dave worked with my kids on the mural process and when he comes to Korea in April he will be doing the same thing. Below are some images from 2005 of my art students going through this mural process with Dave to show what my present art students will be doing:

Update, March 11th:
Photos from my students live chat with Dave and his assistant Ashley on March 11th. My students came to school 45 minutes early to do this chat. It was their first time meeting Dave and Ashley.
Dave and his mural assistant will be arriving in Songdo in two weeks to start the mural with my students.
April 22nd Update:
Dave Loewenstein with his assistant Ashley Laird will be in arriving in Songdo, South Korea in a couple of hours to begin the Songdo Mural Project with my art students!

Thanks Salome! I've been so slack in getting out those steps for the Photoshop collages, must confess this mural project, all that has been involved in getting it off the ground has taken my attention of recent :-) Thanks for your encouragement though!
